Standards set forth in ANSI/AAMA 101-93 Voluntary Specifications for Aluminum
and Poly Prime Windows and Glass Doors
Definitions :
The windows shall be Architectural or Heavy Commercial Aluminum Window System
(Specifier: please, select Heavy Commercial or Architectural Grade Windows in
accordance with ANSI/AAMA 101-93 Voluntary Specifications for Aluminum and Poly
Prime Windows and Glass Doors and AAMA 910-93. Voluntary "Life Cycle" Specifications
and Test Methods for Architectural Grade Windows.
Test Procedures and Performance
- Air Infiltration: The test specimen shall be tested in accordance with ASDTM
E283 at a minimum vent size as specified in AAMA 101.93 (Note to Specifier for Operating Windows):For Operating Vents:
The air infiltration rate shall not exceed 0.10 cfm/ft perimeter at a static air pressure differential of 6.24psf.
For Fixed Windows: The air infiltration rate shall not exceed 0.03 cfm/ft2
- Water Resistance: The test specimen shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E547 and ASTM E331 at
a minimum vent. There shall be no leakage as defined in the test method.
- For Operating Vents: There shall be no leakage at a pressure differential of 10.5psf Heavy Commercial-HC classification
- For Fixed Windows: There shall be no Leakage at a pressure differential of 8.0psf
for F-AW classification (6.0psf for F-HC class)
- Uniform Load Deflection: A minimum static Air pressure difference of (Specifier:
select the wind load in psf__PSF shall be applied in the positive and negative direction
in accordance with ASTM E330. There shall be no deflection in excess of 1/175 of the span of any framing member.
- Uniform Load Structural Test: A minimum static air pressure difference of __psf shall be applied in
the positive and negative direction in accordance with ASTM E330. The unit shall be evaluated after each load.
- Component Testing: Window components shall be tested in accordance with procedures described in ANSI/AAMA 101.93
- Condensation Resistance TestLCRF) when tested in accordance with AAMA1503.1-88 the condensation
resistance factor shall not be less than 55.
- Thermal Transmittal TestLConductive U-factor) when tested in accordance with AAMA150.31-88.
The conductive thermal transmittance (U-factor) shall not be more than .60BTU/hr/ sf/degreeF.
(Specifier Note: Unless otherwise specified, windows tested and certified for condensation resistance and
thermal transmittance shall be glazed with no more than two lights of clear, uncoated, annealed glass.
System Description
Sealed insulating glass shall be of standard construction. Higher performance glass may yield improved CRF and "U" factor
- Life cycle testing for architectural grade windows when tested in accordance with AAMA910.93,
there shall be no damage to fasteners, hardware parts, support arms, actuating mechanisms or any other
damage which would cause the window to be inoperable, and air infiltration and water resistance tests shall
not exceed the primary performance specified herein.
- Forced Entry Resistance: All windows shall conform to AAMA 1302.5 -1976. (Specifier Note: This
test applies provided local code requirements are not in conflict. In case of conflict, the local code shall govern)
Thermal Barrier Tests :
Testing shall be in general accordance with AAMA TIR_A8-1990.Structural Performance Poured and Debridged Framing System.
Submittals
General:
Prepare, review, approve, and submit specified submittals in accordance with "Conditions of the Contract Product data,
shop drawings, samples, and similar submittals are defined in "Conditions of the Contract."

components and assemblies with the specified structural requirements.
Quality Control Submittals.
- Design Data: All casement windows shall meet or exceed ANSI/AAMA 101.93 for (Specifier: select window grade and rating) rated windows.
- Test reports: Submit certified test reports, showing compliance with specified performance characteristics and physical properties.
- Certificates: Submit product certificates signed by manufacturer certifying materials comply with specified performance
characteristics and physical requirements.

Quality Assurance
Qualifications :
- Installer qualifications: The installer shall be a company specializing in the installation
of aluminum windows with a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
- Manufacturer qualifications: manufacturer shall be capable of providing field service
representation during construction, approving acceptable installer and approving application method
- To assure the performance specified. The window manufacturer shall test for air infiltration,
water resistance and structural requirements in accordance with ANSI/AAMA 101.93
Regulatory Requirements:
Published specifications, standards, tests or recommended methods of trade, industry or governmental organizations apply to work in this section.

- Pre-installation meetings: Conduct pre-installation meeting to verify project requirements, substrate conditions, manufacturer's installation instructions and manufacturer's warranty requirements.

- Store and handle windows, mullion, a trim and hardware in strict compliance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Warranty Period:
- Windows shall be two (2) years commencing on date of shipment.
- Insulating glass shall be warranted to be free from defects (excluding breakage) for a period of ten
(10) years commencing on date of shipment (issued by the glass manufacturer)
- The installation shall be warranted against defects for one (1) year from date of installation. (Supplied by instqller).

Aluminum for Windows and Components:
- Extruded aluminum profiles shall be 6063 T5 alloy and temper (ASTM B22) F.S.10A-T5)
- The frame and vent depth shall be not less than 2-5/8" (65mm)
- All framing members shall provide the structural strength sufficient to meet the specified performance requirements.
- All glass pockets, fixed and ventilators shall be weeped to provide positive drainage.
Water shall be weeped to the exterior via frame weep slots protected by a hooded cover or integral drips.

Substitutions:
Substitute products shall be submitted by written request ten (10) days prior to bid, including:
- Certificates of compliance from the substitute manufacturer attesting to adherence to the requirements of the specification.
- Certified test reports verifying compliance with all test reports.
- Product sample complete with glazing, panning, trims, and other options.
- Technical literature and drawings

- Evidence verifying that the manufacturer has
engaged in the design and manufacture of architectural aluminum windows for a period of not less than five (5) years.

Materials
COMPONENTS
Fasteners:
- Fasteners, where exposed, shall be 300 series stainless steel.
- Perimeter anchors shall e aluminum or steel, providing the steel is properly separated from the aluminum.
Glazing Materials:
- Glazing materials shall be compatible with aluminum and those sealant and sealing materials
used in composite structure, which have direct contact with the gasket.
- Standard exterior and interior glazing gaskets shall be a dry glazed elastomer in accordance with ASTM C864-84
- Interior air sealants shall be silicone and shall meet AAMA 802.5-92 (Type11).
- Glazing beads shall be extruded aluminum and shall be a minimum thickness of .050" (1.3)
- Frames shall be weather-stripped with a resilient elastomer gasket.
Glass and Glazing :
- Glass thickness and type shall be based on the manufacturer's recommendations for specified design pressure.
- All glass thickness shall be as specified herein
- Standard factory glazing shall be as specified.
- Annealed glass installed in windows shall meet ASTM C1036-91.
- Sealed insulating glass, where used, shall conform to ASTM E774-88. "A" Level.
- Safety glazing materials, where used, shall conform to ANSI Z97.1-1984 or CPSC 16 CRF 16 CRF 1201-1986.
- Tempered glass, where used, shall conform to ASTM C1043-91. Specified Note: "A" Level sealed glass is required for AW rated windows.
